Finding Your Literary Counterpart

There is a point in your life when you run across a character and think "this is me!"
For me, that came when I picked up the Jane True series by Nicole Peeler. Jane, our heroine, has an internal commentary to things that eerily mirrors my own. For instance, when in a hostile situation in formal dress...

"You can handle anything they throw at you, I told myself. As long as you take off those stupid fukcing shoes."
 -
Tempest Rising

Or for instance, her awkwardness when attempting to talk to a man she's attracted to...

"I do know you're nothing like him. But you're still... still a lot. A lot to handle. I don't mean your junk, obviously, as we've not gotten to the fondling-bits stage yet. And I can't believe I just talked about your junk."
- Eye of the Tempest

Combine this great inner (and outer) dialogue with fast paced action, great mysteries, and a healthy dose of the supernatural, and you've got a great series to read during those hot summer nights! These books are quick, enjoyable, and have frabjous cover art! Be sure to check them out if you haven't already

Sometimes You Need Another Life

This has not been my best week ever. Between losing my uncle and being publicly insulted by my teacher about my financial situation, I have been a little bit stressed to say the least.

So, I will focus on the things that make me relaxed and happy. I found this wonderful new Tazo tea called "Rest." It has valarian root in it and I think it tastes kind of like strawberry licorice.

I also love the game Skyrim, because when I need a break, I can pop it in and be someone else for a little while. It's like a mini vacation, with dragons. Most of the time, I just lounge around the hearth in my character's guild hall, reading the in-game books.

What soothes you in times of upheaval?

The joys of a good tea set!

I got this amazing Bavarian tea set from my mother in law for my birthday. I have a Japanese style set, but this is my first European style one. I love the gold trim, the little images of the man fishing... everything!
I think I'll have to have some friends over for some toasty almond black tea, and sour cream cupcakes with whipped Nutella frosting. Perhaps we'll pop in the newer version of Jane Eyre (starring the delicious Michael Fassbender).
It will be a frabjous day indeed!
Have you ever had an object inspire an occasion? Tell me about it in the comments!

The moment just before you drift away...

I love the XX! They are one of my favorite bands. Soothing, cool, ambient music with beautiful haunting lyrics... perfect for a night of stargazing or relaxing by fire (or a candle if you're like me and have no fireplace). I am particularly in love with their song "Angels." My friend James had said listening to it is like "swimming in a pool of vanilla relaxation."
Enjoy!

If you're wondering, the whole album is similarly awesome.

For the Love of Patsy

I've always loved Patsy Cline. I find her vocals clean, pure, and polished. I would find myself singing her songs when I went about the housework, despite not actually owning any of her music. I finally bought some today (her deluxe hits is on sale for $4), and am absolutely loving it. It is perfect for a relaxing day off! I'm going to put on "Walkin' After Midnight," brew a strong pot of coffee, and lounge on the porch with my dogs.

What music do you like to listen to on a lazy early-autunm day?

Hello!

frab·jous  [frab-juhs]

adjective Informal .
wonderful, elegant, superb, or delicious.

This blog is dedicated to the simple pleasures in life. All the little things we love that make us happy. Like the feeling you get when you wrap your hands around a warm mug of your favorite tea or cocoa at the end of a long day. Or the excitement you feel when you play your favorite band's new album for the very first time. Or the simple comfort of burrowing under a soft, cozy blanket on a cold, rainy day. These are the little moments that make life frabjous.

I'll be recommending books, movies and music among other things. If there is something in life that makes you happy, or some little thing you adore, I'd love to hear about it!
